Two posts from PureWow NY
Calling us out as an unbelievable find: They named Compass Yoga as the top Wow Worthy story of the month for March 2013 and as an example of why living in NYC is just the best!
Review of our classes: “It may not be unheard of to shell out an Andrew Jackson (or two) for a single yoga class around town. But it’s also not the only option. Case in point: Compass Yoga…The [class] environment is incredibly warm and positive, all while being totally gratis. How refreshing in a city where you pay $40 to get yelled at on a bike.”

From Black Balloon Publishing:
“Enter Compass Yoga, a nonprofit organization that teaches free beginner-level classes at five different branches of the New York Public Library, in the belief that yoga should be accessible to everyone.
In a Compass Yoga class, I don’t feel the squick of being a well-to-do cultural tourist. Twisting and reaching on these blue mats are seekers of all races and income levels, of all ages and abilities. My arthritic-looking white-haired neighbor won’t feel pressured to achieve every pose, just as I don’t feel pressured to dress in ninety-dollar leggings.
It is fitting that we are doing free yoga in a public library: here, knowledge and physical peace alike carry no price tag. It feels pure. Agnostic though I am, I find pleasure in being told, “Bring your hands to prayer in front of your heart,” just before we are asked to thank ourselves for having shown up.”

From DNA Info on the launch of Compass Yoga at the New York Public Library:
“Donsky [head librarian at the NYPL Bloomingdale brand] said she’s hoping the classes will attract people who’ve never visited the library, and cater to others who can’t afford yoga classes or a gym membership.
‘Other branches such as Jefferson Market in Greenwich Village host yoga classes, but Bloomingdale is the first on the Upper West Side to do so,’ said NYPL spokeswoman Angela Montefinise.
